I thought I would try something a little different today and write this article as if I was currently in 1956..
Thanks to The Internet Archive for this audio clip which is in public domain and Cleveland Classic Media for the logo.
Station Info
KYW-TV is a broadcast television station that covers the Cleveland Ohio market on Channel 3.
KYW-TV is owned by The Westinghouse Broadcasting Company and airs a wide variety of shows and is an affiliate of the NBC Television Network.
The History
KYW-TV originally signed on as WNBK on Channel 4 on October 31st 1948, and was an owned and operated station of the NBC Television Network.
In 1953 WNBK moved to Channel 3 to limit interference from other stations on Channel 4.
This year as a result of the NBC network wanting a station in Philadelphia they arranged a trade with The Westinghouse Broadcasting Company for WPTZ-TV Channel 3 in Philadelphia which is now WRCV-TV for the NBC's station in Cleveland WNBK also on Channel 3 and their radio stations were also traded.
Westinghouse did not want to lose the call sign KYW which is an historic call sign dating back to 1921 so simply renamed the new stations they had acquired in Cleveland to KYW-AM/FM and TV.
The exchange was complete on February 13th 1956 at 11:45am.
The Sign-Off
First off we hear a nice little jingle for KYW-TV, then a sign-off message by staff announcer Gordon Ward explaining who owns KYW-TV and the groups they are apart off and when KYW-TV will return to air.
Hope you all enjoy....

Hi Tim.
I look forward to reading.
Cheers
This swap was reversed by order of the FCC and Justice Department on June 19, 1965; Westinghouse went back to Philadelphia, taking their KYW calls with them, while NBC was ordered to return to Cleveland, upon which that city's Channel 3 adopted the call letters WKYC-TV.
