Rupavahini

Rupavahini is the state television broadcaster for Sri Lanka, it broadcasts a variety of shows in and news in the languages of Sri Lanka it was up until 2000 funded by a licence fee but now is mainly funded by advertising.

It still closes down each evening and starts broadcasting 05:18 Sri Lankan each morning with this start up.

At around 05:05 a Telefunken test card appears, with the stations ID, this plays through till 05:18 when a information card and the stations logo and name in three different languages appears.

Very basic after that, various shots of Sri Lanka with its people and finally ends with the a shot of the Flag of Sri Lanka.

Sorry for the poor standard of this video its was how it was broadcast and the brief write up to go with it, I just don't have much to say today.

Hope you all enjoy....

GPB

GPB is the Georgian national public broadcaster.

It broadcasts from around 7:45 to 8:00am daily Georgian time and begins is broadcast day with this fantastic start up video.

It is relatively new as a public broadcaster, as late as 2004 it was still a state broadcaster.

First is a cute little ident, that was part of their Christmas package, since this was recorded in early January and you also see the Digital On screen Graphic has snow flakes falling.

Then straight into the start up video with a little boy running to school, then pans into a shot of the school where the little boy starts raising the flag of Georgia up the flag pole, then the group of school kids start signing the national anthem.

Did you notice all the children had back packs with the Georgian flags sewn in?

Then various shots of Georgia, its peoples, its armed forces, its police, its politicians, then into a group with an opera singer finishes the song, then cuts into the little boy in his school class looking over to the window to see the Georgian flag blowing in the wind.

What a fantastic way to start the day, very patriotic and symbolic.

Hope you all enjoy...

RTK 1

RTK 1 is the public broadcaster from the new nation of Kosovo, formally it was the public broadcaster of the Kosovo region of Serbia, broadcasting in the majority spoken Albanian but also in the minority languages of Serbian, Bosnian, Turkish and Roma.

Since Kosovo is in the news after braking away from Serbia and declaring itself an independent nation, the nations of the world are bickering about if they recognise the new of Kosovo or not.

So I thought Id upload this today, and get it while its still news worthy.

First we see and hear a simple colour bar test card with what I can only guess is Radio Kosovo in the background with is common place among broadcasters in Europe who shut down instead of hearing a test tone, then quickly with no note into a shot panning over a square in Prishtina the Kosovoan capital then into a quick close up shot of a statue.

Who's this guy?....

This guy is Skanderbeg he a folk hero and freedom fighter for the Albanian peoples of the region after his struggle with the Ottoman Empire in the 1400's.

Some lovely shots of this beautiful statue, but it gets a bit much after awhile.

If anyone can identify the music used please contact me by commentating or email, I did check to see if it was the interval signal for Radio Kosovo but it was not.

I guess RTK 1 will produce a new video sometime soon with the new Kosovoan flag, I will monitor the channel once a week for a few weeks and see.

Cheers and enjoy..

Canal 7 TV Pública LS82 Argentina

Canal 7 TV Pública LS82 Argentina is the oldest television station in Argentina and started broadcasting in the Autumn of 1951 in Buenos Aires Argentina, it broadcasts on VHF Channel 7.

It is state owned but I believe it is operated as a public broadcaster, and focuses on mainly cultural programming and educational documentaries and movies over night.

It has the call sign of LS82 similar to Canal Trece LS85 also from Buenos Aires, but its original call sign in 1951 was LR3 and was named Television Radio Belgrano.

The station now only closes on Sunday nights / early Monday mornings.

Since its a public channel I was expecting to atleast hear the Argentine national anthem, but I was wrong, similar to Canal Trece they similar have a series of announcements by the lady continuity announcer over the test card and music in between each announcement half hour before the start of the broadcasting day, then into a graphic which is inspired by its black and white tests card of days gone by (First image fifth line down).

The recreation of old style test cards spins into the announcer using the text on the graphic to announce the call sign and channel and into a nice logo graphic.

Enjoy.

Canal Doce LT85 Argentina

Canal Doce LT85 on VHF Channel 12 is a local station from Posadas, Misiones in Argentina, and broadcasts a varied line up from local shows, to El Zoro and big budget US shows like Heroes, I am unsure of its network affliction or even if its has one with the Buenos Aries based stations.

As will all Argentinian broadcasts, it has the Call Sign LT85 I am now assuming LT is assigned to that broadcast region and LS is for Buenos Aires from my previous video of LS85.

A neat feature on their website is the channel actually lists the time of start up and tests for the start of broadcasting for the day.

The broadcast day starts with the female continuity announcer, saying the line up for the day and the station identification for the first time for that broadcast day over the test card.

Then follows into a playing of the National Anthem of Argentina with footage of the flag of Argentina blowing in the wind, straight afterwards I thought well that's it straight into El Zorro...

No wait there's more, station identification shown on air with a nice graphic and into the second video, a video with the local The Misionerita anthem and video of the local Misiones Province flag also blowing in the wind.

On Saturday I will bring you the start up of Canal 7 LS82 Buenos Aires, which will compliment nicely with my previous video from Canal Trece LS85 since its also a station based in Buenos Aires and the call signs are similar.

Phew thats alot of information to read, I hope you all did, and not just skip to watching the video

TV Bulgaria (ТВ България)

TV Bulgaria (ТВ България) is a Bulgarian language channel on Eutelsat W2 at 16°E.

It is an international channel from Bulgarian National Television the public broadcaster of Bulgaria, I assume it simulcasts or rebroadcasts the Bulgarian language content from their over the air BNT (БНТ) Channel 1.

It continues to close down each night with this fantastic video at around midnight CET, but it varies by day to day as you can understand and starts up at around 8am.

It starts with a the Coat of Arms of Bulgaria and then some fantastic scenery from Bulgaria and their National Anthem, into the channels ident and then the static card that is broadcast over night.

What surprised me the most is the Coat of Arms is featured yet the Flag of Bulgaria is not.

Enjoy...

TRT-4

Turkey's national broadcast TRT broadcasts five channels, four nationally and one for international audiences, three do not close down and two that do close down, they are TRT 3 and 4.

I thought about capping TRT-3 start-up but I know from past experience they are both alike and it seems TRT-3 test card generator is giving out a much duller greyed out test card, so I decided to cap TRT-4 instead.

TRT-4 focuses on mainly educational shows, and broadcast a-lot of Turkish Classical and Turkish Folk Music.

Basically its BBC Two in UK of the 1970s through to BBC Fours launch.

The start up video is very patriotic featuring former leaders of Turkeys war of independence, marching soldiers and crowds all cheering along, and of course as with Northern Cyprus the National Anthem.

This really does give TRT an old out dated feel, but I think for Turkey TRT is pretty much perfect, interestingly enough most of the funding for TRT comes from costs placed onto the electricity bill and sales taxes on television and radio receivers! (70%), the other 30% comes from grants from government (20%) and advertising (10%).

I hope you all enjoy, I will of course be uploading another video on Saturday, I am undecided what it will be, possibly Bulgaria.

BRT-2 TV

BRT-2 TV is the second channel from the Turkish Northern Cyprus public broadcaster BRT and broadcast mainly in English, it closes down each night and starts up each morning.

Now I was not expecting how poor the technical standards of the national anthem recording was today, I am not a Turkish speaker so don't watch this channel regularly I just seen it was available and noticed it was not broadcasting at that time post 2am GMT, and decided to hit record and grab their start up for this blog.

It is clearly a technical error on their part somewhere down the line, since the test pattern is clearly okay, either its like this every morning or today was a fluke, if it was a fluke I will hope to bring you the video properly another time.

You can just about make out what is going on in some parts of the video, and the audio is the National Anthem of Turkey and Northern Cyprus.

On Wednesday I will bring you Turkey's public broadcasters start up to compliment this video.
