CERTV Canal 4 is a public broadcast television channel owned and operated by the government of The Dominican Republic and broadcasting through out the country on VHF Channel 4.
In the Dominican Capital Santo Domingo CERTV Canal 4 broadcasts with a radiated power of 16 kW's and I believe has the call sign HIRTVD through out the country.
Although I do not think the call sign HIRTVD is used on air, the general branding is Canal 4.
CERTV Canal 4 first started broadcasting on August 1st 1952 run by La Voz Dominicana which was the name of the state radio authority of that time period, The Dominican Republic was the third country in the Spanish speaking America's to have television.
After various name changes and ownership private and state hands, the broadcasting organisation was finally turned into a I think a public broadcaster in 2006 under the name Corporación Estatal de Radio y Televisión by an act of government.
Corporación Estatal de Radio y Televisión translates into English as State Radio and Television Corporation.
Following frequency changes in 1996 the predecessor to CERTV was now seen on VHF Channel 4 through out the country, prior to this Channel 4 was used in Santo Domingo and the Southern region, Channel 5 in the Northern region and Channel 12 in the South West.
The Video
This video features scenes and politicians from the countries history and other memorable events in the countries history.
Featured is the National Anthem and Flag of The Dominican Republic from the start of the Sign-Off video.
Cheers and I hope you all enjoy.

DWGT-TV Channel 4
DWGT-TV Channel 4 is a Philippine broadcast television station licensed to broadcast to the Metro Manila region on VHF Channel 4 with a radiated power of 40 kW's.
DWGT-TV is the flagship station of the National Broadcasting Network.
DWGT-TV first came on air as a government owned station in 1974 under the name Government Television or shortened to GTV 4.
The NBN network is government owned I am unsure how politically tied to the government it is.
DWGT-TV and NBN's programming is very varied with News and Affairs Shows, Sports, Drama, to Religious shows.
The last two letters of DWGT-TV call sign refer to Government Television.
The Video
First of we begin with a standard test pattern with NBN PHIL on it, then a short video explaining I guess that the stations affiliated to NBN are now signing on, the various stations location on a map and their channel number, sadly I can not make out much more, maybe someone who reads this blog can comment here and fill me in.
Broadcasting Radio and Television in The Philippines it is customary and even recommended by the government to play the National Anthem at Sign-off and Sign-On.
So this is the next video which I will let speak for itself, featuring various phrases in English tagged to various Presidents with their slogans of their day..
Then a what's on next and on tonight slides, and finally a NBN ident/bumper which has a very North American Local News feel to me.
Call Sign Information
Broadcast television and radio in The Philippines aimed for public consumption all use call signs their call signs begin with either:
- DZ for Luzon
- DW for Luzon
- DY for Visayas
- DX for Mindanao
Broadcasting in The Philippines is regulated by The National Telecommunications Commission.
I hope you all enjoy...

XHDF-TV Canal 13
To carry on with the week of Mexico City videos to celebrate Mexican Independence Day on September 16th.
XHDF-TV Canal 13 is a full powered Mexican broadcast television station licensed to broadcast to the Mexico City region on VHF Channel 13 with a radiated power of 320 kW's.
XHDF-TV is the flagship station of the TV Azteca network, with affiliates and repeaters across Mexico.
XHDF-TV brands itself as Azteca Trece, Trece is Spanish for Thirteen.
The last two letters of the XHDF-TV's call sign refer to Distrito Federal or Federal District in English, this refers to Mexico City's being Mexico's Federal district, meaning the city is in direct control by the Federal Government of Mexico and not any state of Mexico.
XHDF-TV began broadcasting on October 12th 1968.
The first four years of broadcast XHDF-TV operated as a commercial station, but on August 15th 1972 it became a public station by an act of the Mexican government of that time.
On August 2nd 1993 XHDF-TV and other state owned channels were privatised to form the TV Azteca Network.
XHDF-TV and some of the TV Azteca Network affiliates sign-off for a few minutes before 6am to fill schedules and to air the National Anthem.
The Video
I have mentioned in Saturdays post XHGC-TV on why Mexican stations need to air this type of video.
They have to play the National Anthem of Mexico and feature the Flag of Mexico
I will let this video speak for itself, but at the end there is a test card with TV Azteca on it, I guess it does not contain a call-sign due to it being aired on various stations around Mexico.
I hope you enjoyed this last two videos from Mexico City.
And cheers and enjoy...

XHGC-TV Canal 5
To celebrate Mexican Independence Day on September 16th the next two videos on the blog will be from Mexico City.
XHGC-TV Canal 5 is a full powered Mexican broadcast television station licensed to broadcast to the Mexico City region on VHF Channel 5 with a radiated power of 64 kW's.
XHGC-TV is the flagship station of the Canal 5 network, with affiliates and repeaters across Mexico.
XHGC-TV programming is mostly youth orientated with cartoons, sports and dubbed American shows.
XHGC-TV began broadcasting on May 10th 1952 with regular programming begining on August 18th 1952, the station is now owned by the Televisa group.
The last two letters of the XHGC-TV's call sign refer to González Camarena. González Camarena was an early mechanical colour television pioneer from Mexico and was XHGC-TV's founder.
XHGC-TV was the first station in Mexico to broadcast in colour using the NTSC standard in Mexico in 1962, making Mexico probably the forth nation in the world to introduce colour that was not on a test basis behind, United States, Cuba and Japan.
The Video
XHGC-TV like other Televisa owned television stations air the same start up video, like its now sister station in Mexico city XEW-TV.
I have mentioned in previous posts about Mexican licensed stations, all broadcast stations radio and television are required to play the National Anthem of Mexico each day by law under their licence from the Secretary of Communications and Transportation of Mexico, but since posting them I have learnt that the Flag of Mexico has to be featured as well on television each day.
I will let the video speak for itself, but as well as sung the National Anthem is also subtitled, then at the end there is a station ident but with no call sign sadly.
I hope you all enjoy....

KTXA Channel 21
KTXA Channel 21 is a full powered independent broadcast television station broadcasting from Fort Worth in Texas, and serves the Dallas and Fort Worth market on UHF Channel 21 with a radiated power of 220 kW's.
KTXA brands itself on air as TXA 21, the stations call sign letters stand for TeXas America.
The A in the call sign originally stood for Arlington, the location of KTXA's first studios.
KTXA started broadcasting on January 4th 1981, and was a UPN affiliate from 1995 until the network went off the air in 2006.
The Video
This video is actually kind of interesting it was broadcast in the early morning of September 1st 2008. The station signs off early every Monday morning for 3 hours from around 2am - 5am, and ends with this small and really unexciting ident which has the station's logo and call signs.
The station goes into a regular SMPTE colour bar test pattern, with station ID, which is I believe required by US broadcast law.
After about two hours of the same pattern, it seems the station engineers have a tinker, and broadcasts a number of test patterns/cards and a generic holding card as if there is a technical fault.
Some of the patterns were pretty dynamic, sadly this can not be reproduced on a flash video.
What I think is they had recently fitted a new test pattern generator(s) and wanted to test it on air, this was the only opportunity/time they had.
At the end there is a pretty cool ident/promo for KTXA sadly, the station engineers seemed to have forgotten to actually switch on the audio.
I sure did enjoy this video, its not really that much, but I find it fun to watch.
Cheers and enjoy...

Televen
Televen is a broadcast television network in Venezuela.
Televen began a test broadcast on February 12th 1988 on VHF Channel 10 in in Venezuela's capital Caracas.
During the test broadcast they aired music videos which were accompanied by a red sphere that symbolized the number ten, which is the broadcast channel like mentioned in the previous paragraph.
Televen officially went on the air commercially and now known as Televen on July 3rd 1988 with the movie Mandela, during the movies first commercial break, 25 commercials were broadcast, making it the longest commercial break in Venezuelan television history.
Televen was one of the first television stations in Venezuela to broadcast American shows and soap operas / telenovelas from other Latin American countries.
Televen can be seen nationally on a I believe either VHF Channel 3 or UHF Channel 15 depending on the location outside of Caracas, as well as on cable and satellite platforms.
Televen is celebrating its 20th anniversary on air this year, and the stylised 20 is featured in a lot of its idents and promos.
The Video
The video is fantastic and has many references to Venezuela's history which I guess is to detailed to go into here.
First is an introduction to the video which I think its totally classy.
Featured through out is the National Anthem of Venezuela signed and subtitled and the Flag Venezuela waving in various scenes.
I hope you all enjoy...

Emirates Channel
Emirates Channel is a channel broadcasting from Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
Emirates Channel broadcasts on the new Badr 6 satellite at 26°E to Middle East and North Africa.
Until recently Emirates Channel could be seen over the whole of Europe with a relatively small dish from the Badr 4 at 26°E satellite, but in August it switched to the new highly focused Badr 6.
So sadly I can no longer receive Emirates Channel any more.
Anyway Emirates Channel uses a falcon in its logo, falconry is a big sport in the Middle East it began as a way of hunting but now has become a sport and a pass time.
Emirates Channel continues to close down each morning and uses the static card seen in this video with I guess the audio from one of their radio stations.
At close down and start up this video is aired, and it is truly something special, a lot of production has gone into a video that is used only twice a day.
Not really much else to say about this channel, I know little else about it.
Have a good September.
I hope you all enjoy.
