DZKB-TV Channel 9

DZKB-TV Channel 9 is a Philippine broadcast television station licensed to broadcast to the Metro Manila region on VHF Channel 9.

DZKB-TV is the flagship station of the Radio Philippines Network.

Although it is known on as as C/S 9 due to partnership arrangements with Solar Entertainment Corporation who own the C/S branding and produces programming for the network.

DZKB-TV call signs stand for DZ for Luzon and KB for Kanlaon Broadcasting System.

Kanlaon Broadcasting System was the former name for the broadcast network.

Kanlaon is a Volcano on Negros Island in The Philippines.

DZKB-TV broadcasts a lot of imported US TV shows which over time has become famous for.

Also a lot of sport with a-lot of basketball from the PBA and the NBA.

DZKB-TV also broadcasts news programming, and has a very long running English newscast NewsWatch which is also the flagship newscast for the station.

In the mid nighties the station started a telenovela craze in the country.

In the past it used to air The Price is Right from the states, this show is a favourite of mine, although it now airs on DZRJ-TV channel 29 in Metro Manilla which an affiliate of 2nd Avenue which is owned by Solar Entertainment Corporation.

DZKB-TV Channel 9 first went on the air on June 29^th 1960 branded as Kanlaon Broadcasting System.

This lasted till 1975 when it re branded as Radio Philippines Network which lasted till the station re branded as C/S 9 in October 2008, although I believe it is still technically the networks name.

The Video

This video is quirky to say the least, no official sign-off message is ever given, just a quick C/S 9 is now signing off and quickly into test card.

Sign-on is more interesting hence why I am featuring it, and the day this was recorded a few technical errors appeared.

First off we see the test card used during the time when DZKB-TV has no programming, although I don't think they actually shut down the transmitter for the need to have a sign-on message with technical details.

The test card then starts to have parts of the National Anthem begin to play over it, audio only, this was clearly a mistake.

Then the anthem stops and then the video and audio start up the National Anthem video produced by a number of government offices, and is used on quite a few stations.

Then a count down video that tells us CS/9 is signing on.

I must say I really do enjoy writing these posts and only one VHF station in DZTV-TV Channel 13 in Metro Manilla I have not posted, if anyone has a sign-on/off from them please email me.
