UT1

UT1 is the first television channel in Ukraine, it is state owned and it is operated by The National Television Company of Ukraine.

UT1 broadcasts in Ukrainian and airs news broadcasts called simply News, cultural programming, sport and general all round entertainment.

UT1 can be seen in 97% of the Ukraine the largest coverage of any television broadcaster in the country.

UT1 can be seen in Ukraine's capital Kiev on VHF Channel 2 with a radiated power of 50kW's.

With obviously a lot of other transmitter sites, but can also be seen on cable and satellite television in the country.

UT1 on air goes by the name Перший канал which means First Channel, this is the common name for the channel.

UT1 does not go off air but at 09:00 (07:00 UTC in Winter Time) each morning they put aside 5 minutes of broadcast time for this national anthem video and taped in vision announcer telling us the following days programming.

Sometime this year hopefully The National Television Company of Ukraine will become a public broadcaster and the government will lose direct control.

The History

UT1 first went on the air on January 20th 1965.

Although I assume on not the current frequencies they use now since I guess they were taken up by the former Soviet Channel 1 and 2 in Russian.

UT1 had a sister station in UT2 till 2004 but this was taken off the and replaced with the commercial private broadcaster cunningly called Channel 1+1 which obvious equals 2, who took over its broadcast frequencies.

The Video

The style in this video is still very heavily influenced by the "socialist" days that's for sure.

Features the National Anthem of Ukraine as well as The Flag and the rest can be watched for yourself.

I really do like this video, one for the fact it has everything you would expect for a national anthem video and more, plus I have been trying to find a start up sequence from Ukraine for a very long time, so this pleases me a lot.

Twitter Feed?

Before I go, if any one is reading this far down.. would anyone like to see this blog get a twitter feed?

I would make little updates on what I am recording, what I have planned and of course have notification of when new videos are posted automatically.

If yes please leave a comment or simply email me, either will appear in my inbox.

I hope you all enjoy.

  1. That was a great national anthem video from the Ukraine on UT1.

I suppose UT1 broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Usually stations broadcasting 24 hours a day begin their new broadcast day at 0600 local time with the playing of the national anthem. However, I am surprised that UT1 somehow begins their broadcast day at 0900 instead of earlier in the morning.

A major difference I have noticed is that according to your blog entry, UT1 has an in vision (or on screen) continuity announcer going over the schedule for the entire broadcast day. In the USA (where I am from) stations go over the schedule at various times throughout the day but we mainly depend on the program schedule feature of our digital cable TV boxes to find out what's on at the moment or later.

You have a great blog, remlap - keep up the great work!

  2. Yep it is 0900, they list their day from 0900 as well.

As for the in vision announcers yes they are taped, and I guess its just out of courtesy, much easier than getting a newspaper if your out in the middle of no-where Ukraine.

You have a great blog, remlap - keep up the great work!

What a nice complement, thanks very much, people saying this makes me continue to enjoy my blog, because others are!

    Cheers Edward
