Venezolana de Televisión

Venezolana de Televisión or VTV is the state-owned television broadcaster in Venezuela.

VTV can be seen on VHF Channel 8 in Venezuela's capital Caracas with a radiated power of 190 kW's.

VTV can also be seen nationwide on cable, satellite and terrestrially through its relays.

VTV broadcasts news and views which are cultural, educational or nationalist but also airs some documentaries and variety shows.

VTV is seen by many as a voice of the ruling government.

VTV between 1974 and 1980 was totally funded by the government, after this it also carried commercials but since 1999 it is commercial free again.

The History

The station can traces its history to when the then President Raúl Leoni opened the privately owned Cadena Venezolana de Televisión station at 7:30pm on August 1st 1964.

In September 1974 after financial problems and struggling against the more established networks the station was sold to the government and renamed Venezolana de Televisión.

The Video

I will let this video speak for itself, it features the National Anthem of Venezuela also being signed subtitled, with the colours of Flag behind the interpreter through out the video.

I hope you all enjoy.

JOTX-DTV Channel 23

JOTX-DTV is a digital commercial television station located in Tokyo Japan.

JOTX-DTV broadcasts a ISBD digital signal and serves the Kanto region of Japan which includes the capital Tokyo.

JOTX-DTV TV Tokyo is the Flag Ship of the TX Network.

The TX Network is a group of stations in Japan who are mostly the forth place station in the region, the network is renowned for its specialization with Anime.

JOTX-DTV in Tokyo can be seen on UHF Channel 23 transmitted from the Tokyo Tower.

The History

JOTX-TV, its analogue parent station originally started broadcasting on April 12th 1964, broadcasting on VHF Channel 12 and serving the Tokyo and Kanto region of Japan.

I believe it began as a station ran by the Japan Science Promotion Foundation for technical high school students in Tokyo? but later became a commercial operation in 1973 or maybe even before that.

I assume they created a network after becoming a commercial operation but I am unsure.

JOTX-TV started colour broadcasts on March 28th 1968.

Not much else to be said really, I hope you all enjoy.

Magyar ATV

Magyar ATV is the oldest private television station in Hungary.

Magyar ATV orignally began broadcasting as Agro TV on January 2nd 1990.

Magyar ATV is required to broadcasting public service programs such as news, current affairs, sports, religion for 50% of its time.

Because of its public service status it is carried on all major cable and satellite packages in Hungary and as a specialist channel on some cable packages where large number of Hungarian speakers live, for example in Transylvania nearly all packages carry it.

I am unsure if it has any terrestrial analogue frequencies, but I believe it is carried on DVB-T encrypted.

Magyar translates into English as Hungarian, I guess they decided to take this name because there are a lot of ATV's in the world.

Magyar ATV does not operate a 24 hour schedule and closes around 1am each night.

The Video

We start with the final ident from Magyar ATV for the night.

Then some nice shots of Hungary's capital Budapest at night in various locations and filming view points, this looks to maybe of been filmed in early to mid nighties?

All this while the National Anthem of Hungary is playing through out.

I hope you all enjoy...

TVP1 Close Down 10th September 2008

TVP1 is the first channel from Poland's public television broadcaster Telewizja Polska.

TVP1 can be seen in Poland's capital Warsaw on VHF Channel 11 in PAL and DVB-T digital on the TVP mux on UHF channel 48.

Telewizja Polska is pretty obvious it translates to Television Poland.

This close down aired on the end of the broadcast day of 10th September 2008 or the early hours of 11th September 2008.

The History

TVP can traces its history to 1935 when Polish Radio and the State Telecommunications Institute came together to work on getting a local Polish television service going.

By 1937 a television station was complete with first test broadcasts in October of 1938 with scheduled broadcasts planned to begin in 1941.

This of course never happened, in September 1939 Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union invaded from the East and West respectfully, the stations equipment was destroyed during the war and not used by the Nazis during World War II.

After World War II the new State Telecommunications Institute began work on a new service in 1947 and by 1951 the new station was conducting its first test broadcasts after the war.

First official broadcasts took place on October 25th 1952, with SECAM colour broadcasting in 1971, and after joining the EBU in 1993 it switched to PAL standard in 1995.

The Video

Not much to be said to be honest, I think its all self explanatory, but the TVP Clock has their old logo.

I hope you all enjoy....

MKTV Sat

MKTV Sat is a 24 hour international television channel from Macedonia's capital Skopje.

MKTV Sat is the international television station of Македонска Радио Телевизија or in English Macedonian Radio Television, and broadcasts in the Macedonian language.

MKTV Sat can be seen in Europe Free To Air at 13°E and 16°E and in Australia and New Zealand on pay satellite television at 152°E.

MKTV Sat broadcasts a variety of programmes from МТВ's terrestrial television stations from the past and present, but it also has five hours each day of new content produced for MKTV Sat.

The History

MKTV Sat first started broadcasting in 2000

МТВ's television service officially began broadcasting on December 14th 1964, prior to this I assume tests were carried out as Television Skopje.

I guess maybe other television stations were able to be received before this from the countries that border with Macedonia who introduced television earlier.

The Video

I will let this video speak for itself, it features some very beautiful locations in Macedonia with the National Anthem playing with the lyrics laid over the video, with a little Macedonian Flag graphic in the corner.

I hope you all enjoy, I do like this video.

Armenia 1 New Years Eve

Armenia 1 is a public broadcast television channel from Armenia.

Armenia 1 broadcasts a wide variety of content, from news, to sports, to music videos to American imports dubbed in Armenian.

Armenia 1 broadcasts on VHF Channel 8 in Armenia's capital Yerevan, and has transmitters across the country but also can be seen across the whole of Europe on satellite on Hot Bird 6 at 13°E and Eutelsat Sesat at 36°E.

The Video

This video was broadcast on New Years Eve December 31st 2008 just after the President of Armenia's speech, it is common in the ex Soviet Unions satellite countries to have a speech by their current president each year.

I will let this video speak for itself, but it features very patriotic images, with a 3D created Coat of Arms and Flag of Armenia and National Anthem playing.

Finally a graphic welcoming in 2009 with fireworks being set off.

I am unsure if this video will be used from now on or will be just used on New Years Eve after the President of Armenia's speech.

To see the previous video used by Armenia 1 please click Here, it features the same 3D Coat of Arms and Flag.

Cheers and enjoy.

DWET-TV Channel 5

DWET-TV Channel 5 is a Philippine broadcast television station licensed to broadcast to the Metro Manila region on VHF Channel 5 with a radiated power of 120 kW's.

DWET-TV is the flagship station of the Associated Broadcasting Company.

DWET-TV is known on air as TV5 but prior to 2008 it was known as simply ABC or ABC5.

DWET-TV call signs stand for DW for Luzon and ET for Edward Tan a former investor.

TV5 airs a mixture of shows from news and events, to soaps, sports and children's shows and anime.

The children's shows are broadcasted both Filipino and English at different times, I have noted that Filipino is mainly in the mornings, shows like Bob the Builder may be dubbed but older maybe more retro and nostalgic like Postman Pat are not and in English and aired in the early evening.

The History

DWET-TV originally began broadcasting on Channel 5 in 1960 with the call sign DZTM-TV, but was taken off the air in 1972 when Martial Law was declared in the country.

DWET-TV came back on the air on Channel 5 with new investors on February 21st 1992 and quickly became a major player.

The Video

DWET-TV does not sign off after the re brand to TV5 but still continues to air this National Anthem video prior to 6am each morning, it also features the Flag.

At the end a very funky promotional video with people with TV Set heads!

To see and read about other stations in Metro Manilla and Call Sign information click Here.

I hope you all enjoy.

XHSTA-TV Canal 7

XHSTA-TV Canal 7 is a full powered Mexican broadcast television station licensed to broadcast to Villahermosa on VHF Channel 7 with a radiated power of 150 kW's.

Villahermosa is the capital of the state of Tabasco

XHSTA-TV broadcasts the programs Television Tabasqueña and I believe is the small networks flagship.

Television Tabasqueña also has XHVET-TV in La Venta on Channel 5 and XHMET-TV in Tenosique on Channel 10 both broadcasting with a radiated power of 50 kW's. These may be a direct repeaters of XHSTA-TV.

Television Tabasqueña seems to be a small public broadcaster producing programs to improve the state of Tabasco, broadcast history and cultural events, scientific technological programming but also to broadcast news.

Television Tabasqueña can also be seen in Mexico, the continental United States and Hawaii in C-Band on SatMex 6 Satellite at 113°W, this maybe the satellite where XHVET-TV and XHMET-TV receive their signals to be rebroadcast.

The word Queña means Small in Spanish, thought it may be worth including.

As always XHSTA-TV and its sister stations are required to conform to the broadcast laws of the Secretary of Communications and Transportation of Mexico, this includes airing the National Anthem and Flag of Mexico.

First of we see a standard test card with XHSTA TV CANAL 7 DESTE: VILLAHERMOSA, TABASCO MEXICO, deste translates to From:.

I will let this video speak for itself..

I hope you all enjoy

First Birthday - Top 10

Today is the first birthday of this blog.

Thank you to all my readers and people who have commented through out the year.

So I thought instead of posting a video as always I would do a run down of my ten personal favourites of last year that I posted to this blog.

So here we go....

  • Number 10: We Start of with the first video I posted to this blog, this was from RTA in Afghanistan, they have since stopped airing a start up, which is a shame.

  • Number 9: XHGC-TV Canal 5 Mexico City, this video is very lively and patriotic to watch and the station has a very interesting history.

  • Number 8: HírTV for a cable news channel in Hungary HírTV really pushed the boat out with this one, great video.

  • Number 7: HLDR-TV South Korea, very patriotic and incredibly epic this one, a description for this was posted in a mini review of my blog in the What Satellite Magazine earlier this year.

  • Number 6: XETV Fox 6, the first of two videos I have posted to this blog from XETV, who are required to play the National Anthem of Mexico daily.

  • Number 5: TIBYK in Costa Rica, just plain enjoyable.

  • Number 4: CBFT in Montreal, a French language station from the CBC's Télévision de Radio Canada and the oldest television station in Canada.

  • Number 3: KCTV North Korea, this is a video I had been searching for sometime and was very pleased to post it to this blog.

  • Number 2: JOAB-DTV simple and moving, but still packs in everything that is needed by a close down.

  • Number 1: BR Fernsehen have no real reason to air this close down video every night, no other station in Germany does and this reason makes it my favourite as well as its visually stunning.
Thank you for reading and please leave comments with some of your favourites.

Cheers and enjoy.
